THE STORY Hi! I'm Alexa DiPaterio, owner of the Poppery! I started my business at the age of 23. Growing up I was extremely creative. I always knew I needed a career that challenged me and allowed me to express my creativity. It all started in 2013, cake pops had just slowly started making their debut on Pinterest. I was asked if I could make these things called “cake pops.” I took on the task and made my first batch. As time went on, the cake pop requests kept coming with increasingly challenging themes and designs. I was at a party when someone came up to me and told me I should really turn this into a business. At that time, I was in my first year of college for fashion and had every plan to continue on that path. Fast forward two years later, I got accepted to FIT to continue on in fashion. You would think I was estatic, right? It was at that very moment I realized the passion was not there. As much as I still love fashion, I stand by that decision to this day because it led me to where I am now. I dabbled in a few other fields and still nothing gave me that fulfillment I was searching for. I started to think I was never going to find anything. The week of Mother’s Day 2017, I had an order for a friend that canceled last minute. With the cake I had already baked, I decorated 25 cake pops and arranged five pops into a bouquet wrapped in burlap with baby’s breath. I posted it on my personal Instagram account announcing I would be selling these bouquets for Mothers Day. I honestly didn’t think anyone was going to buy them. Three days, five more batches of cake, and 22 bouquets later. It was now 5:00pm on Mothers day and I was still receiving messages asking if I had any left. That was when I decided I was going to dive into this head first and its been a whirlwind ever since. It has been an amazing journey so far and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for The Poppery.
Thank you for all the continuing love & support xOx Alexa
What Are Cake Pops?
Cake pops are essentially exactly what it sounds like! Delicious moist cake on a stick! Cake pops start out as a baked cake. Once the cake has cooled, it is crumbled & mixed with frosting. Each cake is measured out and rolled by hand, ensuring each pop is equal to the next! Once rolled and shaped, they are dipped into quality melted chocolate. They are then decorated to fit each clients desired theme. Cake pops are decorated using sprinkles, fondant, candy, edible paints & glitters. Every cake pop & fondant detail is made by hand and is a very labor intensive process, which is why they are priced according to the detail & time in each design.
Storing Your Cake Pops
Every batch of cake pops is made fresh and will easily last a week without refrigeration. They should be kept in a cool place away from heat/sunlight as chocolate melts very quickly. Refridgeration is not recommended before an event as it will cause them to "sweat," which can alter the original design. After your event, you may extend their shelf life with refridgeration/freezing your cake pops!
